OLD TOWN WALKING TOUR starts at the representative building of the Slovak National Theatre, one of the dominants of the Old Town. You continue walking through Hviezdoslav Square, lively place, markets and concerts venue, with elegant buildings, pleasant rest corners, charming cafés to turn back to the time of coronations visiting one of the most important churches in the city – St Martin´s Cathedral – where in total 19 kings and queens of the House of Habsburg were crowned. Music lovers will be keen on listening to the stories about world famous musicians whose lives are closely related to the city. Mozart, Haydn, Rubinstein, Hummel, Beethoven, Liszt and many others lived, composed and performed in here. Michalska street offers the view of the St Michael´s Gate – the town´s only preserved gate out of four providing the entry into the fortified medieval city. Walking through narrow Michalska street with Renaissance and Baroque appearance breathe in the atmosphere of the Middle Ages. At its end the Hungarian Royal Court Chamber majestically perks, in the past the seat of Hungarian Parliament. Undoubtedly the most charming square in the Old Town area is the Main Square with the Old Town Hall and the oldest fountain – the Maximilian´s fountain.
